The New Member and Membership Ministry focuses on inviting, welcoming and incorporating those persons sent to St. George’s by God to join our faith community.
Our Greeter Team will be the first contact to welcome a guest to St. George’s.
A Guest/Visitor Book is available in the Narthex and in Hatlee Hall. Immediately following a guest signing our book, a welcoming letter is mailed to our guest(s) by our Priests-in-Charge.
A St. George’s Welcome Visitor/Guest Card should be available on the table in the entrance or in Hatlee Hall. This card invites guests to provide their name, address, email address and phone number and request information about St. George’s. The receipt of this card in the office would generate the following actions:
1. A member of the Membership Ministry would deliver a gift to the visitor.
2. A member of the Membership Ministry would provide the person/family with a Welcome Visitor/Guest Packet.
If a visitor delivers (in the plate or in the mail) a Membership Request Card, the PIC and the Membership Team are contacted. Together, they identify a Shepherding Member, provide the new member with our Welcoming Member Packet and make arrangements to introduce the Shepherding Member/New Member.
Our Shepherding Program serves to assist new members in feeling welcomed and a part of our church family. The shepherds are individuals who have volunteered to greet, guide and serve as a contact for new families.
Goal: Provide a formal program to welcome new members, teach them about St. George's and the Episcopal Church, and formally recognize them when they officially join our church.
The scheduled classes in 2017 begins February 5th.
Membership Name Tag Area
Our Membership Name Tag Area has been created as part of an ongoing Eagle Scout project. Nametags should be worn every Saturday, Sunday or at any St. George's event. There are nametag drop boxes at each exit. A membership team member will rehang the tags during the week.
Three Minute Hospitality
For three minutes after the service, the Membership and New Member Ministry asks each member of St. George’s to spend the first three minutes following services, in the narthex and at coffee hour or a reception, to talk to folks we don’t know. Making this special effort to meet and greet someone we don’t know is to have the welcoming heart of Christ - to be truly present to each person we greet at St. George’s, especially "strangers."
New Member Photo Appointment
Upon becoming members, new families are asked to make an appointment to have their photos taken for our Membership Directory.
New Member Brunch
Annually, the Membership Committee in collaboration with the Fellowship Committee, plan a New Member Brunch. This event will recognize all new members. Each new family/member will be given a St. George icon for their home.
